Your Application and Resume
- Keep your resume around 2-3 pages and itemise all of your qualifications and employment history succinctly
- Include referees who can comment on either your work ethic or qualifications
Research and Prepare
- Practice an interview with a friend or relative
- Learn about the organisation
- Review your qualifications for the job and be ready to describe your experience - specifically to show how it relates to the job
- Be ready to answer typical questions such as "Why should we hire you?", "What will you bring to this position?" and "What are your strengths and weaknesses?"
The Interview
- Dress appropriately and present neat and tidy
- If you need to bring any documents (such as certificates of education), make sure you have copies with you
- Be on time! (on time means five or ten minutes early - not literally on time!)
- Be polite and courteous when you are introduced to interviewers and try to remember their names
- Try to stay calm and relax and remember, you've researched and prepared and written a fantastic application/resume already - that's what has got you this far!
- Be cooperative and enthusiastic and make strong eye contact
- Use proper English - avoid slang or colloquial terms
- Show what you know and try to relate it back to the company and the role in which you will be working
- Ask a question! But, avoid asking questions about wage/salary and instead ask a question which demonstrates your enthusiasm for the role and your understanding of the business
- Thank the interviewers for their time and exit confidently
